Changing Out Dishwashers

Have you ever tried to exchange out dishwashers? Have you ever come to the point where it was time to change out your old dishwasher and install a new one? It can be hassle. It can also feel overwhelming. If this has happened to you, then it is helpful to have someone who is experienced walk you through the process.

What to do first?

The first part is making sure you pick out a quality new dishwasher that will take the place of the old dishwasher. It is good to look for an energy efficient dishwasher. It is also good to stay away from any unknown brands due to wanting to be cost effective. You can’t purchase these at Best Buy or Lowes. Some great brands are Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid.

Once You have purchased the dishwasher

It is time to take out the dishwasher. This is not hard, but you need to know a few steps to make this easier as well as to keep you safe. It is important to cut off the water first. Go into your sink cabinet. Look for the water pipes that are going to your dishwasher. Turn off the water valve. Once the water valve is shut off, you can begin taking off the cords. You will find one cord going to the water line. The other cord is going to the garbage disposal. Make sure you take these off before going any further. Following this, you need to go to your breaker box to cut off the electricity. Take a flashlight and look at the panel. If the panel is marked, then cut of the one for the dishwasher. If the panel is not marked, then cut off all of the panels. Better safe than sorry when it comes to this. Once you have the power off, you need to look underneath your dishwasher. You will find the main power chord connecting to your dishwasher. Uncover the electrical box. Take off the wires from the box. Cover the wires with electrical tape or some other device. Once you are done with this, unscrew the screws that are attaching it to the top of you counter. Pull out the old dishwasher. You can either have the company you bought the new dishwasher from take it away or you can take it to the dump. You can then turn the lights back on.

Once Your Dishwasher Has Arrived

Once your dishwasher has arrived, you can begin the installation. In many ways, it is doing the reverse of you just did with taking it out. First, you want to make sure the power is off again. Go to the breaker box and turn off all of the power. Once the power is off, you can attach the two cords to the dishwasher. Attach the cord that will attach to the water line. The other pipe should already be attached that will go to the garbage disposal. Once attached, slide the dishwasher in connecting the hoses to the appropriate places. Water hose goes to the water line. Disposal hose goes to dishwasher. Once this is done, you need to begin connecting the power. It is extremely dangerous and it is something you need to be very cautious. Connect the white wire to the white wire. Connect the black wire to the black wire. Make sure the metal grounding wire is connected to the box outlet. When this is done, then you can turn on the power. Following this, turn on the dishwasher to see if it is working. If it is not working, repeat steps again to make sure these things were done correctly.
